BAPTISM - EPH 4:5

By Robert Arthur

A. MEANING OF:
There is but one baptism for Christians today. It is commonly known as 'water baptism'. It is a burial or an immersion in water into Christ death and being resurrected with him. Rom 6:4-7, Col 2:12
In other words baptism is an outward expression of our submission (obedience, love) or a public declaration of faith of our inward believe and conviction we have in Christ Jesus. Acts 2:40-41

B. A COMMAND:
It is a commandment Christ Jesus gave which must be strictly obeyed. Mat 28:18-20, Mk 16:15-16

C. IMPORTANCE OF:
1. It washes away sins .. Acts 22:16
2. It saves us ... 1 Pet 3:21
3. It is for remission of sins .. Acts 2:37-38
4. It puts us into Christ ... Gal 3:27
5. It adds us into the body of Christ .. 1 Cor 12:12-13

D. IN WHAT SHOULD WE BAPTIZE:
Baptism must be performed or done in the name of Christ Jesus. Acts 2:38; 10:48; 19:5

E. A NECESSITY:
The weight of its necessity is so great that various fathers of faith went through it. In addition, their submission to undergo this practice was a matter of urgency and immediate.
1. Jesus Christ .. Mat 3:13-17, Mk 1:4-5, 9-11
2. Ethiopian eunuch .. Acts 8:36-40
3. Crispus & his household ..Acts 18:7-8
4. Lydia ... Acts 16:13-15
5. The Philippian jailer & his household ... Acts 16:25-34
6. The 12 disciples at Ephesus .. Acts 19:1-7
7. The Samaritans & Simon the sorcerer ..Acts 8:12-13
8. Paul .. Acts 9:17-19

F. SUBJECTS OF:
Those who are taught of the gospel of Christ and have genuinely believed have to be baptized. Matt 28:18-20, Mk 16:15-16. The capabilities of accepting the word of God can be exhibited in those who are matured, neither Infants nor Mental Retarded persons have that will to do that. Heb 5:12-14, Acts 2:37. Therefore, Infants baptism is not scriptural.

G. IS REBAPTISM BIBLICAL:               Yeah, rebaptism is necessary and scriptural though the word of God mentioned only one baptism. Rebaptism is needed when the subjects (applicants), the mode of and the purposes of baptism are misapplied and misconstrued. Acts 19:1-7

H. WHO IS AUTHORIZED TO BAPTIZE A BROTHER:
The New Testament did not give any selected few supreme or special authority to baptize a converted soul. Infact the book of Acts recorded a Christian brother, a disciple of Christ who was instructed with the meaning and mode of baptism to baptize the newly converted Saul (Paul). Acts 9:10-19.
In other words anyone who is a believer and has been taught the meaning of baptism can baptize a brother. 2 Tim 2:2

My sincere question is have you been baptized right according to the word of God, if not, then you are missing it.
