WHY GIVING TO THE LORD IS IMPORTANT?

A. Because God is the source (giver, provider, author) of our wealth and blessings. Deut 8:18, Ps 112:3, Hag 2:8, Jam 1:17, Ps 104:19-29. Eg. Solomon - 2 Chron 1:9-12, Abraham - Gen 24:34-36, Isaac - Gen 26:1-3, 12-14

Therefore, we are just 'stewards' (watchmen, caretakers, overseers) of all the abundance of blessings and possessions we have. And must give them back to God for His honor and generosity. Pro 3:9-10

B. Because it is a command to give out our substance of means to support the needy. Deut 15:7-12, Acts 20:35. In other words we are to use our monies for the betterment of humankind and to glorify God. Deut 2:6, Ezra 7:15-18

C. A test of our faith. Job 41:11. Eg. Cain & Abel - Heb 11:4-5, Gen 4. Compare Malachi 1:6-9

D. ACTIONS IN GIVING TO THE LORD:
1. Giving is not for a public show - Mat 6:1-5
2. We must give willingly - 2 Cor 8:1-5
3. We must cheerfully give - 2 Cor 9:6-7
4. We must give as God hath prospered us -1 Cor 16:2, Deut 16:17
5. We must avoid stinginess - Pro 3:27-28, Lk 12:15

E. BENEFITS OF GIVING TO THE LORD:
1. Becomes rich enough - 2 Cor 9:10-11
2. Receives just reward - Mark 9:41
3. Good measurement received - Luke 6:38
4. Lacks nothing - Pro 11:24
5. You are remembered - Mark 14:6,8, Neh 5:14-19
6. Receives blessings....Acts 20:35, Deut 15:7,10-11

F. EXAMPLES OF: 
1. King David - 1 Chron 29:1-9
2. Israelites - Exo 35:20-29
3. Certain widow - Mark 12:41-44
4. Macedonian Christians - 2 Cor 8:1-5
